Robert Joseph - a uniquely broad experience in wine 

Former wine writer for the London Sunday Telegraph, founder-editor of WINE International magazine and author of over 25 books, including the annual Robert Joseph Good Wine Guide, the Complete Encyclopedia of Wine, the Wine Travel Guide to the World, Art of the Wine Label and Bordeaux and its Wines. His French Wines has been published in French, Russian, Chinese, Italian and Polish.

 Awards he has won include The Golden Vine, Glenfiddich, Marques de Caceres, UK Wine Guild, Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Wine Guide, and VinVentions Innovation Award. He is one of the few wine professionals to be included in the annual Who’s Who of noteworthy and influential people who impact British life. Decanter named him as one of the 50 people who would influence wine drinking in the 21st century

 In 1984, he launched the International Wine Challenge and built it to become the world’s biggest wine competition, with regional competitions being held in China, Japan, Russia, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Poland. He is now on the board of Mundus Vini in Germany and a General Chair of the 5-Star Tasting in Verona, Italy.

 A frequent public speaker, he has given keynotes at events across the world.

Since 2005, Joseph has focused on producing his own wines. le Grand Noir, a ‘new wave’ wine brand from S. France now sells nearly 4 million bottles per year in 65 countries. It is the 11th biggest selling French wine in the US and the first in India.

His innovative recently-launched, super-premium, Georgian project, K’AVSHIRI is already listed by Michelin-starred restaurants

Joseph also offers strategic and digital marketing consultancy for a wide range of companies and regions, that have ranged from Chateaux Brane Cantenac and Malartic Lagravière in Bordeaux, to Torres, Accolade Wines, Origin Wines, Wine Australia and the Republic of Georgia.

 Joseph is former Visiting Professor at the Burgundy Business School and has lectured to wine business students at the University of California, Sonoma, Hong Kong, Trento as well as to WSET and Master of Wine students in the UK.

 His often-controversial weekly thoughts on wine were published every week in Meininger’s International, of which he was Associate Editor until its closure earlier this year. He is now author-publisher of the increasingly popular Wine Thinking substack.

In 2020 and 2021, he was co-presenter of The Real Business of Wine webcast. His next book Wine Thinking 2005-2025 will be published this year, followed by The Wine People. Another book, looking at history of the wine industry from 1984-2004 is also in preparation.
